Lametti defends bill to axe mandatory minimums for drug, firearm offences

Canadian Justice Minister David Lametti defended the Liberals’ proposed bill to axe mandatory minimum penalties on all drug and certain firearm offences that had been tabled this week, saying it was an “important step” to target offences that lead to overrepresentation of Black, Indigenous and other racialized Canadians in the criminal justice system.
