During his address to the nation on Sunday, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said the country has seen an average of 1,600 new cases a day over the past week, compared with 500 daily cases a week earlier. He said the positivity rate has risen from two per cent to nine per cent in under a week, leading to concerns South Africa will enter a fourth wave in the next few weeks.
