White House says ‘self-regulation is not working’ following Facebook whistleblower who claims company prioritized profit

Following a Facebook whistleblower who accused the company of prioritizing profit over censorship of hate speech and misinformation, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Monday that it’s the “latest in a series of revelations that self-regulation is not working.” Frances Haugen, who worked as a product manager on the civic misinformation team at Facebook, revealed her identity as the whistleblower who provided the documents that underpinned a Wall Street Journal investigation and a Senate hearing on Instagram’s harm to teen girls.
