A car crashed into a building in downtown Peterborough on Thursday evening. The crash happened around 5 p.m. at the corner of Rubidge and Charlotte streets. The vehicle jumped the sidewalk, crashed through a metal fence and struck a building and a gas line. The building, which houses a law office, was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. The driver was assessed at the scene by paramedics. On Friday, police said a 26-year-old man was charged with careless driving. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
