Colorado legislature erupts after GOP lawmaker makes racially insensitive remark

A Colorado State House of Representatives session was called to recess on Wednesday after Rep. Richard Holtorf referred to someone as “buckwheat,” a racially insensitive reference to a Black character in the 1930s “Our Gang” short films. Holtorf, a Republican, was commenting on a proposed bill amendment when he was interrupted by someone off-camera.
