Toronto’s medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa on Wednesday addressed the decision to close area schools, as the city combats a third wave largely driven by more contagious variants of the coronavirus. The doctor said the decision was “taken very deliberately and with a great deal of consideration,” but it was necessary to protect the health and safety of children and educators.
