Coronavirus: Freeland stresses Canada can afford COVID-19 assistance

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said Wednesday it was normal for Canadians to be concerned about their nation’s finances, but said if the question is whether the country can afford COVID-19 spending, the answer is yes. She said they entered the pandemic with “fiscal firepower” to do what was needed and had lowest net debt to GDP ratio in the G7 and still expected to have the same status.
