When asked on Wednesday about a recent case where a family was unable to say goodbye to a dying loved one in hospital due to mixed messaging between a hospital and the patient’s doctor, Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Ontario’s deputy chief medical officer of health, said it appears it may have been a communication problem. She said the policy should permit close visitors to enter wearing proper protective equipment when a person is dying “and it’s palliative.”
