The Salt Lake City Police Department released body cam footage from one of their officers showing a 13-year-old Utah boy with autism being shot by police on September 4th. According to police, officers responded after his mother called police saying he was having a mental health episode and potentially violent. She also told officers she believed her son had a gun, however she believed it was most likely a BB gun. Officers provided medical aid to the boy until medical personnel arrived, and he was then taken to a local hospital, according to police. He survived but suffered broken bones and pierced organs, the family’s attorney has said.
