The Swan Hills Treatment Centre processes hazardous waste from across the country and is one the largest single employer in the town of 1,300 northwest of Edmonton — or at least it was, until dozens were laid off. As Kendra Slugoski explains, the mayor of Swan Hills says 60 people were told they will be out of a job — and with the crash of oil and gas, there is nothing to fall back on.
