Trump says ‘surge’ of federal law enforcement to be deployed to Chicago to ‘drive down violent crime’

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that there would be a “surge” of federal law enforcement deployed into communities “plagued by violent crime.” He specified officers would be heading into Chicago to “drive down violent crime.” He also claimed, without providing evidence, the recent “spike in murders and shootings in major cities” was due to an effort to “shut down policing.”
