WHO says bubonic plague outbreak in China is being ‘well-managed’

A spokeswoman for the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday that the organization did not consider an apparent outbreak of the bubonic plague in China as high risk, saying it’s being “well managed.” A hospital reported a case of suspected bubonic plague in Inner Mongolia, prompting the city of Bayan Nur to issue a warning. The bubonic plague, known as the “Black Death,” is a highly infectious and often fatal disease spread mostly by rodents. Cases are not uncommon in China, but are becoming increasingly rare.
