Washington, D.C. protesters mark U.S. Independence Day with call to end anti-Black racism
Protesters in Washington, D.C. marked the country’s Independence Day on Saturday, reciting the names of Breona Taylor and George Floyd and demanding an end to racism. Floyd was a Black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis in May. His death sparked a wave of global protests against racial injustice. Taylor was a 26-year-old Black emergency medical technician killed on March 13 after the officers entered her apartment bearing a “no-knock” arrest warrant.
