Mississippi voters to pick new design for state flag following legislation to remove Confederate symbol

Mississippi lawmakers over the weekend paved the way for a new state flag which would see the Confederate battle emblem no longer displayed, the last state to remove the symbol from its flag. The new flag design will be decided by voters in the November election and the current flag will not be an option, however the new design will be required to include “In God We Trust.” The state’s governor is expected to sign the bill to remove the current flag into law.
