Living In Colour: The history of anti-Black racism in Canada
Description
June 12, 2020
Canada is not exempt to anti-Black racism and history shows it: From the Computer Riot of 1969, to the Yonge Street Protest of 1992 and even the Black Lives Matter protest during the Pride Parade in 2016. However, prominent political leaders such as Ontario Premier Doug Ford, have tried to downplay the history of systemic racism in Canada. Host Farah Nasser speaks with York University associate professor of Black Studies of the Americas, Andrea A. Davis, on why it’s important to understand the history of anti-Black racism in Canada and how diminishing discrimination faced by Black communities is harmful.
