Coronavirus outbreak: U.K. health official says lag in COVID-19 death data common

British deputy chief scientific adviser Angela McLean said on Wednesday that data for COVID-19-related death tolls around the world and in the United Kingdom often has “long reporting lags” so those numbers might appear to rise as deaths can sometimes be reported many days or even “a week or so” after occurrence.
