Coronavirus outbreak: NY governor says 40,000 signed up for surge healthcare force project due to COVID-19

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said his government is working on putting together a surge healthcare force, asking retired healthcare workers to sign up for a “possible reserve duty.”
He said 40,000 have already signed up so far including nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists and those in other occupations.
Cuomo added that this will help the system when existing staff gets ill, or when the workload becomes more demanding.
