Asked if he did not recognize that blackface was racist until around 2008 when he became MP for Papineau, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau said becoming a member of parliament helped him understand the “lived reality” that many Canadians face discrimination and racism. Trudeau did not, however, say if he recognized blackface was racist prior to 2008.
