Hundreds of adult Atlantic salmon were released into Lake Ontario on Tuesday morning.
The salmon are at the end of their reproductive life which is why biologists from the Glenora Fisheries station released them into the lake at the Cobourg west pier.
The fish, around 5 to 6 years old, are no longer able to spawn, so rather than house them, biologists have “retired” them to Lake Ontario so anglers can enjoy trying to catch them.
