On Thursday U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer described Defense Secretary Jim Mattis as 'one of the few symbols of strength and stability in this administration' following Mattis' resignation. He criticized President Trump for withdrawing troops from Syria and said how that decision attributed to Mattis' decision to resign.
