Members of the Oakland Unified School District’s Honor Band took a knee during their playing of the national anthem before an Oakland A’s game on Tuesday, September 20. The band members were the latest to use a sports event to send a message against police violence, following a trend that began with 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
