CALGARY- Calgarians are being warned about a new scam that’s circulating, which uses the logo of a well-known beverage company. Kathy Duff was searching job sites, when she received an offer to work for Mountain Dew. All she had to do was put an advertising decal wrap on her car, and was promised $600 per week. “I said ‘wow, that's pretty good, what do I have to do, drive my car?” she remembers. “They sent me the application and the documentation asking me to sign off on it.” However, Duff became suspicious when told she would receive a cheque for several thousand dollars, which she was supposed to cash and then wire the rest to a graphic artist for the car wrap. “It looked too good to be true, but it was labelled ‘Mountain Dew energy drink.’ I’ve seen the ads, I've seen people driving with stuff on their car before.” The Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns employment scams are more common in the summer. “It’s a numbers game, and certainly the summer is a good time for employment scams,” says Sandra Crozier-McKee from the BBB. “Any time you get an unsolicited e-mail, letter, whatever, something with a cheque in it where you’re supposed to wire out some money, that's a red flag. “Don't do it.”
