Motorcyclist killed after crashing into deer on Highway 2A

CALGARY – A 56-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash in the city’s deep southeast on Friday. The victim was travelling northbound on Highway 2A (Macleod Trail) near 210th Avenue S.E. when he struck a deer. Both the victim and the deer were killed in the collision, which happened around 5 a.m. Police believe the motorcyclist was in the left-hand lane, and the deer came out from the ditch heading east across the road. Investigators say the victim tried to brake for a distance of about 20 metres before he struck the deer. Northbound Highway 2A was closed at 210th Avenue S.E. for several hours while police investigated. Any witnesses to the collision or the events leading up to it are asked to contact the Traffic Section at 403-567-4000. Police don't think speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
