Cuba plunged into darkness as fuel shortage worsens from US embargo
Description
March 5, 2026
Cuba brought its electrical grid back online Thursday, after a massive blackout plunged two-thirds of the country into darkness. The country’s energy ministry blamed the outage on the Trump Administration, which has cut off foreign oil to the island. The island relied heavily on shipments from Venezuela. The blockade is making daily life miserable for millions of Cubans and devastating the country’s key tourism industry. Around 40 per cent of visitors are Canadian. Touria Izri reports.
