Canadian Armed Forces leave Pimicikamak as evacuations continue, repairs still pending
Description
January 25, 2026
The Canadian Armed Forces have left Pimicikamak Cree Nation after a federal deployment to assess damage caused by a winter power outage that crippled water and sewer systems. The military’s role was limited to assessments and logistics, despite requests for help with infrastructure repairs, Chief David Monias said. With 79 more homes now deemed damaged, evacuations are set to resume with the Red Cross, as the community urgently calls for licensed tradespeople and awaits a restoration timeline.
