The Toronto Blue Jays’ extended playoff run has been hailed a massive boost for Toronto’s economy at a time when it’s really needed. But, Moshe Lander, the country’s leading sports economist, suggests the spending lift may be limited and is “massively overstated.” As Anne Gaviola explains, it may simply be pulling money to Jays-adjacent businesses, away from ones that aren’t related to the sport as well as cutting into holiday spending.
