Community leaders and relatives of a Muslim hotel worker are demanding action after a brutal, hate-motivated attack in Markham, Ont. left the 54-year-old with catastrophic facial injuries.  “This is one of the worst Islamophobic incidents I have seen in my time here at NCCM,” said Chief Omar Khamisa. The organization says hate crimes targeting Muslims have surged, urging governments to end divisive rhetoric and adopt national recommendations to combat Islamophobia. Police say the suspect was arrested at the scene and prosecutors are reviewing possible elevated charges.
