Poilievre slams Carney over ‘liberal bail’ as PM defends reforms
Description
October 2, 2025
During question period on Thursday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre accused Prime Minister Mark Carney of "failing victims" by keeping “liberal bail” in place. He cited recent violent crimes involving repeat offenders released on bail, including a Quebec woman’s killing. Carney countered that his government is introducing “the toughest bail and sentencing legislation,” based on consultations with police and provinces. He urged the opposition to support reforms that he says are evidence-based and consistent with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
