At a press conference on Wednesday, Minister Mélanie Joly said Canada will boost defense spending to 3.5% of GDP and is working on a new defence industrial strategy. She said the goal of the plan is to strengthen the Canadian Armed Forces while investing in industrial capacity at home. Joly also confirmed talks with defence firms Saab and Lockheed Martin as Ottawa weighs future procurement options.
