While speaking at Friday’s press conference marking the official transition from the Surrey RCMP to the Surrey Police Service, Mayor Brenda Locke acknowledged that no one involved in this “very public debate did it for fun.” Locke says she “was standing up for Surrey taxpayers and for a police service that I believe has served our community well.” She also thanked Surrey RCMP for keeping the community safe for over 70 years and the province for financially helping support the transition.
