The annual United Nations (UN) climate summit COP29 kicked off Monday with countries readying for tough talks on finance and trade, following a year of weather disasters that have emboldened developing countries in their demands for climate cash. “That the UN Climate Change Conference (UNCCC) is hosting yet another climate meeting in an authoritarian petro-state (Azerbaijan) is beyond absurd,” Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg said from Tbilisi, Georgia.
