After Israel's parliament passed a law on Monday to ban the United Nations (UN) relief agency UNRWA from operating inside the country, some officials and Palestinians expressed fear that it will worsen the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said during a Washington, D.C., briefing that the U.S. was “deeply troubled” by Israel’s legislation and that there “could be consequences” under American law and policy for its implementation.
