Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian confirmed Friday that China will offer the Taliban in Afghanistan– and dozens of the “least developed countries” across the globe – tariff-free access to its expansive construction, energy and consumer sector. Beijing has sought to develop and strengthen ties with the Taliban since it overthrew Afghanistan’s government in 2021.
