In a Thursday update, Minister of Environment Steven Guilbeault attributed wildfire measures implemented since the late 90’s, which helped create the national FireSmart program, for saving large parts of the town after a wildfire destroyed one-third of the community’s buildings last week. “Have we not done that, there would be no more Jasper today, this jewel that we have as part of the National Parks Network would be deeply, simply gone,” Guilbeault said.
