Kenyan police fired on demonstrators trying to storm Nairobi’s legislature on Tuesday, killing at least five protesters. Sections of the parliament building were set ablaze as lawmakers inside passed a bill to raise taxes. In chaotic scenes, protesters overwhelmed police and chased them away in an attempt to storm the parliament compound, with protesters reportedly managing to enter the Senate chamber. Protests also spread from the capital Nairobi to cities such as Mombasa and Kisumu.
