At least five people, including a child, died Tuesday while trying to cross the English Channel. French authorities said the deaths occurred when the engine of an overcrowded small boat, carrying more than 100 people, stopped off the coast of France and several people fell into the water. The attempt to cross the channel took place just hours after Britain passed legislation to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda.
