Following the fatal mass shootings in Maine on Oct. 25 that resulted in the deaths of at least 18 people, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called on the U.S. House speaker to pass gun measures to prevent further incidents from happening. Her calls include enacting universal background checks, requiring safe gun storage, and keeping guns “out of the hands” of criminals.
