The memorial was scheduled for removal Friday afternoon in alignment with the cultural protocols of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and səlilwətaɬ Nations.

The memorial at the Vancouver Art Gallery by Tamara Bell went up in May 2021. It honours 215 children believed buried at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.
