Hundreds of people were in the vicinity of an illegal pipeline tap that spewed gasoline in the town of Tlahuelilpan on Jan. 18.

Mexican authorities said the pipeline explosion, which killed dozens, should serve as an "example" to fuel thieves who cost the country US$3 billion annually.
