The patrols will cover two sections, in the west and east of Turkey’s operation zone in Syria, with a depth of 10 kilometers. Turkish troops and allied Syrian opposition fighters now control the border towns of Tal Abyad, Ras al-Ayn and nearby villages.

Syrian Kurdish-led forces and Turkey exchanged blame on Saturday for fighting that has rattled a U.S.-brokered cease-fire in northeastern Syria, as the Kurds appealed to Vice-President Mike Pence to enforce the deal.
