Five years after a serious ski crash seemingly ended his playing career, Wayne Middaugh is back and making an impact in the Calgary curling bubble.

The parched prairie air of Moose Jaw, Sask., combined with the constant dehumidification at the arena to keep ice keen, has essentially turned the Scotties Tournament of Hearts into a winter desert.

The host city continues to prepare for the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier, taking place Feb. 29 to March 8, 2020.
