A southern Alberta couple found guilty of failing to provide the necessaries of life for their young son was sentenced Friday, more than four years after his death from bacterial meningitis.

Sentencing arguments are scheduled to begin Thursday for a southern Alberta couple found guilty of failing to provide the necessaries of life to their toddler son who died of bacterial meningitis four years ago.

Edward James Mikla has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for a fatal hit and run that killed 45-year-old Lorne Miller. Thirty-one-year-old Mikla was also given 18 months probation and a five-year driving ban.
