Nova Scotia Power's lead in the response to Fiona said the privately owned utility was coping with thousands of broken lines and hundreds of damaged poles.

Environment Canada said Wednesday evening that Fiona, which is now a Category 4 hurricane, was continuing northward toward Nova Scotia at about 19 kilometres per hour.
