Twenty years after Swissair Flight 111 killed 229 people off the coast of Nova Scotia, the investigation into the deadly crash continues to have an enduring legacy on safety.

On Sept. 2, 1998, 229 souls boarded Swissair Flight 111 at JFK International Airport in New York for a flight heading to Geneva, Switzerland. The plane would not reach its final destination.
