The Northeast River Valley Park was closed for a prescribed burn, meant to clear grass and weeds in the park. Preventative fire is a recent add to the city's fire protection plan.

Known for now as 'Northeast River Valley Park,' the 190-acre property contains a lake for non-motorized boating, a playground, an events centre, and connections to walking trails.
