A Liberal-dominated House of Commons committee is calling on the Trudeau government to make internet giants like Netflix collect and remit sales taxes on as part of a series of recommendations to help Canada's small businesses compete online.

Starting next year, Quebecers will have to pay a tax on their monthly Netflix bill — but the rest of the Canadian population won't have to.

A recommendation to impose a new five per cent tax on high-speed Internet services in Canada was promptly rejected by the heritage minister Thursday.
