Trudeau issued a brief statement on Twitter on Friday, saying members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be deployed to the area to provide logistical and transportation support.

While the efforts have been warmly welcomed by residents and local governments, one Canadian Army commander says: "If this becomes of a larger scale, more frequent basis, it will start to affect our readiness.''
