With cases falling in Europe, Asia and North America, and flat in Africa, South America is the only region where new infections are rising rapidly on a per capita basis.

There are, however, small signs the worst may be over for the current outbreak in Brazil, with the Health Ministry saying that the spread of coronavirus could be about to slow.
