The local fire department said it has been called out to battle 17 fires in the area in the past six days. Mayerthorpe RCMP confirmed they have been called in to investigate five fires over the past 10 days.

A massive fire in Mayerthorpe that prompted officials to evacuate a school and a mobile park, is being treated as an arson investigation, RCMP said Tuesday evening.
