Moscow said in a 2021 submission to the UN that it wanted much more Arctic seabed, a move that has implications for Canada and Denmark who have their own claims.

The data can be used to define the boundaries of the continental shelf in the Arctic Ocean and will part of the Canada's case to the United Nations Convention on the Laws of the Seas.
